Meghan Smith, LCSW
I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of California and I am deeply committed to working with individuals toward relief from mental health symptoms and challenges. I have extensive experience working in the areas of anxiety, trauma, PTSD, grief and loss. I practice trauma-informed psychotherapy and work in collaboration with each client to come up with a treatment plan based on your needs. Together, we can work toward wellness.
I have received advanced training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, grief and loss therapy, and trauma treatment.
Treatment Specialties
I specialize in anxiety and trauma work. Living with anxiety or the aftermath of trauma can feel like being trapped in a state of constant survival. You might experience racing thoughts, overwhelming dread, or a persistent sense of unease that makes it difficult to feel safe in your own body. These challenges are not signs of weakness; they are the ways your nervous system responds to past stress or overwhelming experiences. In my practice, I specialize in helping individuals work through these patterns. Together, we will create space to help you regain a sense of stability and promote resilience.
I integrate evidence-based approaches designed to support both the mind and the body. I practice Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and talk therapy. I use mindfulness to help you ground yourself in the present moment, calm your nervous system, and develop coping skills.
My style of therapy is truly collaborative and things always go at your place. If you are looking to begin therapy, you can book a consultation with me. If you are having a medical or mental health emergency, call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room. The mental health crisis line is 988.

Appointments
I offer video telehealth visits to anyone residing in California. New clients can request a consultation by email. It is helpful to have a consultation before having a first therapy appointment so that I can explain my process and answer any questions. Consultations are free, up to 20 minutes, and done by video meeting.

More About Me
I have a BA in sociology with a minor in political science from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master of Social Work degree from Catholic University in Washington DC. I spent eight years living in Washington DC where I worked at the national headquarters of the American Red Cross. After working in grant management at Red Cross, I was drawn to graduate school by my desire to help others and work with individuals in a more direct way. After moving to California in 2012 and taking a few years off to be with my kiddos, I spent five years at the Department of Veteran Affairs across two different programs. One working with veterans who have serious mental illness and were working toward mental health recovery, and one with veterans who were experiencing homelessness or were at risk of becoming homeless. Additionally, I was a psychotherapist in the integrated behavioral health department at PAMF Sutter health in Santa Cruz for two and half years. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, listening to podcasts, going to the beach, cooking, and running.
